Rugby World Cup 2011

Rugby in Wellington was started at club level almost 140 years ago by Captain JCR Isherwood, who founded the Wellington Football Club in 1870. There are currently 33 individual clubs in Wellington, Wairarapa and on the Kapiti Coast.

Set within a natural amphitheatre of harbour and hills, New Zealand’s capital is loved for its culture, atmosphere, innovation and cuisine. Wellington is well known for its passion for major sporting events. With a harbour-side stadium just a few minutes walk from the central city and railway station, match-goers will have the ultimate Rugby World Cup experience in Wellington, while still having plenty of time and opportunity to explore our city and surrounds with ease.

The Wellington region will be at the heart of the action during Rugby World Cup 2011. As proud host of five pool and two quarter-final matches, our vision is to build a legacy, memories and relationships that will last a lifetime.

WOW Wellington has confirmed listings to affordable Rugby World Cup accommodation. Options range from campgrounds & homestays to hotels, B&B, motels, self-contained apartments and holiday homes - there is something for everyone and every budget!
